Breastfeeding, something so natural but yet it's a challenging task to many new mommies, especially the first time mommies.
I have 5 essential keys to share with all the mommies-to-be who want to be successful in breastfeeding.
1. Prepared. Get yourself equipped with breastfeeding knowledge. You may attend breastfeeding classes when you are pregnant so that to get yourself educated with basic knowledge and skills.
2. Determination. To be able to breastfeed successfully, determination is very important. You may not have a very smooth start, but I guaranteed it will go smooth later. You need to be very determined to keep yourself going in the journey. Breastfeeding is 90% determination, and 10% milk production.
3. Support. Besides determination, you need support from the people around you. Many new mommies did not realized that supports from family members and baby caretaker are very important in order to be successful in breastfeeding. What if you have people and family members who keep on saying that you do not have enough milk, and asking you to give the baby formula milk. After some time, you may give in. But if you have people around you who keep encouraging you to keep on trying, you will get the motivation to hang on longer.
4. Discipline. If you are a full time working mom, you need to be very discipline in your pumping schedule when you are at work or when your baby is not around you. Pump on time. If you are blessed with a baby who sleep through the night or your baby sleeps with caretaker, you need to wake up to pump during midnight. The midnight pumping is important as the prolactin level is the highest that time. Midnight pumping will give you higher yield or probably even the highest yield of the day. And midnight pumping will stimulate your breasts to produce more milk.
5. Belief. Believe in yourself that you are able to breastfeed. Most of the women can breastfeed. Your body is able to make milk for your baby. The amount of milk that you can produce is not determined by your breasts size. Having small breasts do not mean you cannot produce alot of milk.
